TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)-- 7-12 grade girls attended the Hermanitas Conference at Washburn University on Friday.
Organizers say the program empowers young Latina girls and helps them become successful.
"This year the focus is on the girls knowing that there are alternative routes of education and nontraditional jobs that they can and should pursue if they choose to do so." said Michelle De La Isla of Hermanitas.
Keynote speaker Angela Arismendi-Pardi immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 and encouraged the girls to follow their dreams.
