(WIBW) - A collision between a big rig and a pickup Thursday morning near the Atchison / Jefferson County line claimed a life.

It happened just before 9 am. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 72-year old Marcia Rygaard of Effingham stopped at a stop sign on K-116, then turned her Ford Ranger onto Highway 59 in front of an oncoming semi. The big truck hit Rygaard's pickup.

The wreck had Highways 59 and 116 near Nortonville closed until 2 pm Thursday.

The tractor trailer driver, 66-year-old William Tatum of St. Joseph, Missouri, was not hurt.
