MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- A construction-related accident sent one person to the hospital Thursday with what officials described as a serious hand injury. The worker had to be airlifted to The University of Kansas Medical Center for further treatment.
Riley County Fire and EMS crews were called to a new house that is under construction on Fourwinds Court on the west side of Manhattan at 8:45 AM Thursday.
According to Riley County EMS Director Larry Couchman, one of the men working on the project suffered a "significant injury to an extremity" and was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. The injured man was stabilized and then airlifted to KU Med in Kansas City by Life Star helicopter.
There were reports that the worker suffered a partial amputation at the wrist but Couchman would only confirm that the patient received a serious injury to his hand.
The worker's name was not released. Officials would not say how the accident happened. It is unclear what the man was working on at the job site at the time of the incident. Further details were not released.
