Woman Pleads To Charges In 2013 Topeka Murder

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka woman pleaded Tuesday to charges related to a February 2013 murder.

Jamie Engstrom was convicted of conspiracy to commit second degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated endangerment of a child.

She and her husband Michael both were charged in the shooting death of Rickey Mitchell near SW 12th and Topeka Boulevard. Authorities say the two then fled to Nebraska, where they were involved in an armed robbery and shoot-out with police.

Michael Engstrom was sentenced in January to up to 107 years for crimes in Nebraska. In late May, he received life in prison with no parole for 20 years for the Shawnee County murder charge.

Jamie Engstrom was sentenced to five years on charges in Nebraska. She'll be sentenced on the Shawnee County charges August 15th. She's expected to get just over 14 years in prison.
