(WIBW) - Authorities confirmed Wednesday that a woman and child were injured in a shootout between a bank robbery suspect and a highway patrol trooper Tuesday night in Saline County.
Authorities identified the suspect as Jason Gleason. He was released from prison in June after serving time for a 2004 aggravated robbery.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says Gleason robbed a bank in Rice County Tuesday morning. Around 6:30 pm Tuesday, a trooper spotted his vehicle south of Salina. Troopers say Gleason took off on a chase, crashed the SUV, then got out and exchanged gunfire with the trooper who was following him.
Gleason was found and arrested around 9:30 pm Tuesday.
The trooper received minor injuries from shattered glass. A woman and three children were in the car with Gleason. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says the injury to the child who was shot was serious, but not life threatening, while the woman's injury was potentially life threatening. They say the woman and children were previously known to Gleason, but would not comment on what the relationship might have been.
The KBI continues investigating who shot them.
Jason Gleason is the brother of Sidney Gleason who was convicted of capital murder in the deaths of two people in Great Bend in 2004.
