Winter Storm Weakens As It Moves Into Kansas

GOODLAND, Kan. (AP) _ A winter storm has weakened as it moves
into Kansas, but a 17-mile stretch of westbound Interstate 70 has
been closed in the northwestern corner.

The Kansas Department of Transportation shut the westbound lanes
from Goodland to the Colorado border Friday afternoon mainly
because motels were filling up. Conditions were also expected to
deteriorate, although KDOT's cameras showed only light snow by 4
p.m. CST.

The National Weather Service downgraded a three-county blizzard
warning to a winter storm warning because conditions were less
windy than expected. But the storm was still expected to reduce
visibility to a half-mile in some areas into early Saturday.

The updated forecast calls for 7 to 10 inches of snow in
northwestern and north-central Kansas, and as little as a dusting
in eastern sections.
