Wind Power Comes To Jefferson West

MERIDEN, Kan. (WIBW) - Jefferson West High School now has a new way to help power their school.

A wind turbine rose into the skies near the southwest corner of the high school Friday afternoon.

Westar Energy's green team and Smalley Energy helped put up the Skystream 1.8 kilowatt turbine.

The effort to get the project to the school was spearheaded by Mrs. Bruton's Calculus 2 class. Noah Livingston, who graduated in May, was among the students who led the effort. He returned Friday to witness the work pay off.

The project is part of K-State's Kansas Wind For Schools Program. The energy generated will supplement the power at the school.
