WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Sedgwick County judge has granted probation for a 31-year-old Wichita woman whose 6-year-old son died in crash while she was driving drunk.

Crystal Ross pleaded guilty in September to involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence, which usually carries a sentence of about three years in prison.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Ross lost control of her vehicle in January. Her 6-year-old son was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Investigators said no one in the vehicle was properly restrained.

The Wichita Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/17GUREh ) prosecutors and defense lawyers recommended that District Judge Ben Burgess depart from state sentencing guidelines and place Ross on probation.

Burgess granted probation, but also said Ross will have to serve a 3 { year prison term if she violates terms of her probation.
