EL PASO, Texas (KAKE-TV) A Wichita woman is in a Texas jail after allegedly trying to smuggle meth into the U.S. from Mexico.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, it began when a pedestrian traveler tried to cross from Mexico to El Paso around 5 p.m. on New Year's Day.
While she was in the primary inspection station, a CBP officer noticed an unusual bulge in her lower back. CBP officers then located two bundles of methamphetamine strapped to her back, weighing 1.15 pounds.
They arrested 33-year-old Melissa Kay Villar of Wichita. She has since been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to face attempted drug smuggling charges.
The CBP said this was the first drug seizure of the year at the El Paso port.
