WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) — A Wichita man is hospitalized after being shot in the face during a home break-in late last night.

Police say a 34-year-old man was asleep at his home in the 2200 block of North Piatt when someone broke in around 11 p.m. Tuesday. The 34-year-old woke up to see the suspect standing over him, before being shot in the face.

According to police, the victim was able to get his nine-year-old son, who was sleeping in another bedroom, and drive to the hospital. He's currently hospitalized and his son is in police protective custody.

Police believe the suspect ran from the scene after shooting the man, and no arrests have been made. The motive for the break-in and shooting is currently unclear.
