AUGUSTA, Kan. (KAKE) — A Wichita man is dead after drowning at a lake in Butler County.
Around 8 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews were dispatched to a water rescue at Santa Fe Lake northwest of Augusta. They arrived minutes later as the lake's caretaker was pulling a man out of the water.
EMS began resuscitation efforts, and he was taken to a nearby medical center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead later that night.
He's been identified as 46-year-old Tinajera H. Campos of Wichita.
Witnesses told the Augusta Department of Public Safety that the man had been swimming with family and friends when he appeared to gag. He then went under water, while others called for help.
