WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) — A Wichita man is in jail after being arrested for allegedly impersonating a sheriff's deputy.

It began around 1 a.m. Wednesday on Rock Road just south of 21st when a security guard was pulled over by a man claiming to be a sheriff's deputy. He was driving a black Dodge Ram with a red and blue visor-style light and had a siren.

Both men got out of their vehicles and asked each other for identification. The security guard became suspicious, got back into his car and drove away. The other man began chasing him with lights and sirens southbound on Rock Road.

The security guard called 911 and said the man chasing him was armed.

Real deputies caught up to the man in the black truck and tried to get him to stop. Instead, the suspect turned off his lights and siren and accelerated to about 110 mph. When he got to MacArthur, he turned off the rest of the lights and was able to lose the deputies.

Shortly after, the suspect called 911 saying his truck had been stolen and that he was lost in a field. Deputies were able to locate him and his truck near 47th Street South and Greenwich.

The 35-year-old man was arrested and booked for impersonating a law enforcement officer, DUI and flee and elude.
