WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -- Carlettea Fisher and her husband were finishing a mowing job near 12th and Hillside Monday morning when she spotted a little girl locked behind a cage.

"She was just standing here crying in her little pajama's a little princess outfit a purple princess outfit and nike tennis shoes, just standing there crying."

Fisher says the girl said she was one, hungry and thirsty, but she couldn't tell Fisher her name. Fisher says she looked around the area, but couldn't find anyone around aside from the girl.

"I don't know how she got inside of here that's the biggest thing I don't know if someone abandoned her, if she crawled in here, or if someone abandoned her." says Fisher.

She eventually climb the fence and handed the girl over to her husband. Fisher took the girl to the Wichita Police Patrol North substation, who then transferred the girl to the Wichita Children's home.

Police investigated and soon learned that the child had been in the care of others who were using the church van, along with several other children. She had fallen asleep and had accidentally been left behind.

Police say it appears to be an accident, but it's not known if any charges will be filed in the case.
