TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Fire crews found water where they expected to find flames at a Topeka townhome Monday.

Crews were dispatched to Martin Creek Place apartments and townhomes near 4950 SW Huntoon after 9 a.m. where "visible smoke" was reported.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered a water main break spraying more than 30 feet into the air. The plume of water had been mistaken for a plume of smoke.

City of Topeka crews were called to tend to the broken water line, located in the front yard of the townhome.

The resident of the home reported slight water damage, a neighbor told 13 News.
