A water main break south of the Shawnee County Department of Correction cut all water and sewer service to the staff and inmates and inmates at the jail and put the entire facility on lock down for much of the day.

The break happened about 8:48 a.m. Thursday morning also caused a temporary loss of power to the facility until 9:20 a.m. Water wasn't fully restored and the lock down wasn't lifted until after 6:00 p.m.

Officials are working with Shawnee County Emergency Management to arrange other sources for drinking water and waste removal.
