Washburn Players In Wreck ID'd

(WIBW) - Authorities say four Washburn University football players were not wearing their seatbelts in a crash that killed a redshirt freshman Friday.

18-year-old Jermon Watson died Saturday of injuries from the single-car accident in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City, MO police say the car was headed down a two-lane road when it swerved to avoid an oncoming car that appeared to be over the center line. Officials say the car flipped into a nearby yard.

19-year-olds Sean McPherson and Brandon Downing, and 21-year-old Patrick Myrick were also in the car. The three also play football for Washburn.

Officials say alcohol and speeding were not factors in the crash.

Funerals services for Watson, who was from St. Louis, are pending.
