Washburn University And 17th Will See Major Renovations

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__Washburn University and its surrounding neighborhood will get a facelift starting in May.

Morgan Hall on campus is being remodeled to make a more welcoming entrance for those attending and wishing to attend the University. The hope is to create a more inviting look along with a visitors center for potential students.

There are also plans for a new School of Law building and a KBI forensics lab.

17th street between Washburn Ave. and MacVicar will also see a major overhaul as crews plan to create three lanes complete with landscaped medians and storm sewers to improve drainage, to new decorative street lights and wider walkways.

Many residents voiced concerns and praise for the project set to begin this May with a completion date marked for December.

The project will be completed in two phases, the first finishing in July.
