Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - A road project months in the making will open to the public on time and on budget. Southwest Wanamaker from 29th to 37th streets will be open to through-traffic on Wednesday.

The two inside lanes and middle turning lanes will be open. The outside lanes will remain closed while workers finish dirt work in the right-of-way. The improvements include five-lanes of pavement with curb and gutter, an underground storm system to collect storm water runoff, walkways on both sides of Wanamaker Road, a pedestrian signal at Southwest 34th Terrace, a bridge widening and street lighting.

The $6.2 million project was funded by the Federal Fund Exchange Program through the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The stretch has been closed since the first week of March.
