A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF NORTHEASTERN KANSAS UNTIL 10:00PM CDT.
WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) - Wamego celebrated its 143rd Independence Day Parade Friday evening, and there was no shortage of people in attendance.
Thousands were on hand spanning more than 6 blocks to see the largest and longest running parade in Kansas.
Barbeques and tailgates were set up in nearly every yard along the parade’s route, with some in attendance coming from out of state to be a part of the celebration.
"We’re looking for a great parade because everybody says it’s an awesome parade; not like our parades back home," said Bruce Lister of Atkins, Arkansas. "They said the fireworks display is bar none. Couldn’t even compare it to Petit Jean when Rockefellers were doing it."
The night capped off with a 30 minute fireworks display at the Wamego Recreation Complex.
