Raccoon Causes WIBW-TV Transmission Issues

By  |

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Westar Energy says a raccoon is to blame for power problems that caused WIBW-TV to lose transmission abilities Monday.

A mechanical issue caused when a raccoon got into a power substation forced Westar Energy to switch service over to a secondary substation early Monday morning. The switchover caused problems for equipment responsible for transmitting WIBW-TV's signal.

Westar Energy said that repairs to the main substation supplying power to WIBW-TV's transmitter would be completed by noon Monday, but complications were delayed the timetable.

WIBW-TV's VHF 13.1 and 13.2 signals remained offline as of 12:40 p.m. Monday.

WIBW-TV's UHF Ch. 44 was up and running. WIBW-TV was also airing on Cox Cable systems.
