Van Bursts Into Flames After Striking Deer On I-70

RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW)-- A 15-passenger van caught fire on Interstate 70 Friday morning after hitting a deer.

The accident happened at 7:30 AM in the westbound lanes near mile marker 318, just past the exit for Frontage Road.

The lone passenger was the driver who troopers say is a magazine salesman.

Once the driver struck the deer, he pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate and got out of the van before it became engulfed in flames.

Crews from Riley County Fire Department put out the fire and both westbound lanes were shut down for 15 minutes.

No injuries were reported. The van, which was full of magazines, was completely destroyed.
