A Jefferson county fire chief is in hot water, accused of theft and the misuse of public funds.
Sheriff Jeff Herrig said that Valley Falls Fire Chief John Gordon was arrested Fiday by agents from the KBI.
Jefferson County Attorney Jason Belveal said that Gordon faces felony charges for theft and misuse of public funds.
Belveal said the arrest came after a 4 month investigation conducted by the KBI.
The investigation began after an open records act complaint. The Jefferson County Fire Board held an emergency meeting over the weekend and suspended Gordon without pay.
Belveal said he could face five to seven months in jail if convicted. Gordon has been released on a $10,000 bond.
