Arson Blamed For Central Topeka Fire

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- An early morning fire at a central Topeka home was intentionally set, according to the Topeka Fire Dept. Firefighters were called to the house, 1813 SW Lane St., around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

They could see heavy smoke and flames pouring from the back of the house when they arrived. When they searched the home, firefighters found no one there and all the contents had been cleared out.

The fire was under control by 5:45 p.m., but not before it could cause significant damage to the home.

Investigators traced the origin of the fire to the back of the house and said it caused about $50,000 in damages.
