TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The United Way of greater Topeka is helping make Christmas brighter for families in Jackson County.

The organization presented a check for $7,000 this afternoon to the Jackson County Ministerial Alliance Christmas Bureau.

The money will allow the bureau to purchase necessities such as coats, hats and gloves. The children will also receive two gifts and a food basket for their family.

More than 200 families were served last year.

Christmas bureau organizer Kay Smith says more applications have come in this year compared to last year.
