Union Reaches Tentative Agreement With Goodyear

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A tentative local labor agreement has been reached between Goodyear and United Steelworkers Local 307, union officials confirmed Friday.

Steelworkers Local 307 issued a 72-hour strike notice earlier that would have expired at 1:00 p.m. Friday.

The tentative agreement will have to be approved by a union vote. A spokeperson for the union said dates and times for the vote would be scheduled after a meeting of the union's board.

Until the agreement is finalized, operations continue as normal.

Both Local 307 President Robert Tripp and Topeka Plant Spokesperson Whitney Watson said Thursday that both sides were working to reach agreement on their local contract.

A master contract covering six Goodyear plans was approved this summer -- but separate agreements spell out specifics for each location.

Tripp says that includes things like work rules, scheduling and vacation language.

Watson says four plants have approved their local agreements -- Topeka and Danville, Virginia have not.
