USD 437 Superintendent Announces Retirement

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The superintendent of the Auburn-Washburn school district says this will be her final school year leading the district.

Dr. Brenda Dietrich announced her retirement plans Wednesday morning at a back-to-school staff convocation.

This is Dietrich's 14th year as head of USD 437. Auburn-Washburn has seen a steady growth of students, from just over 5,000 when Dietrich took over in 2001, to an anticipated 6,100 this coming year.

USD 437 is the second-largest district in Shawnee County and the 15th largest in Kansas. The district plans to conduct a national search to fill the Superintendent position, and announce a replacement by early 2015.

Auburn-Washburn has had only two superintendents in the past 33 years. Howard Shuler served 19 years before Dietrich.
