USD 383 Employees Affected by Tax Error

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Around 300 employees at Manhattan-Ogden’s USD 383 may have to pay a bit more when it comes time to file their taxes.

This comes due to an error in the payroll setup for tax year 2013 in relation to Kansas income tax withholding.

"It was just the way that the tax tables were set up," said Business Services Director Lew Faust. "The tables changed. Legislature changed them in the legislative session in the spring of ’12 and when the new tables were set up there was an error in the way they were set up."

Those impacted are single employees making more than $33,000 and those with married status making more than $66,000.

"To find out that you may owe anywhere from $700 to $1400 based on if you’re single or married if you were part of the ones that got the email," said NEA Co-President Lisa Heller. "I think it’s just a lot of frustration."

Administration says the problem has been corrected for 2014, but it’s too late to fix the 2013 taxes.
