TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) _ A new trail honoring a long-time Seaman School District teacher was officially dedicated Monday evening.
The "Dr. Carolyn Orozco Fitness Trail" is named for USD 345's retiring assistant superintendent, Dr. Carolyn Orozco.
Orozco spent her entire 36 year working career in the Seaman School District. She started in 1978 as a physical education teacher at what was then Northern Hills Junior High. She became principal of Seaman High School in 1995, moving up to Assistant Superintendent in 2002.
The mile-long gravel trail was designed by Seaman faculty members. It will be used by physical education classes, student athletes and will be open to the public when school isn't in session.
The trail is located on the southern half of Seaman High School's property. The entrance is located in the east corner of the south parking lot adjacent to the football stadium.
The trail was made possible through a $180,000 grant from the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and another grant of $23,125 from the Sunflower Foundation in Topeka.
