Two People Arrested After Police Chase In Jackson County

Mayetta, Kan. (WIBW) - Two Topekan's were arrested after a car chase Saturday evening in Jackson County.

Around 7:30 p.m., Prairie Band Potawatomi Police Corporal Steven Smith was patrolling in the 12300 block of 150th Road. He was alerted to a possible stolen vehicle by his patrol vehicle's license plate reader. A check of the vehicle's information indicated that it was reported stolen out of Topeka on Nov. 30th.

Corporal Smith attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to yield and led officers on a chase. The pursuit ended about 10 minutes later when the vehicle left the roadway. The driver, 30-year-old Philip Waymack, and passenger, 32-year-old John North, bailed out of the vehicle and ran on foot.

Waymack was taken into custody after a short foot chase. North sustained minor injuries to the arm after being apprehended by a police service dog.

Waymack was transported to the Jackson County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of possession of stolen property, felony fleeing and eluding, driving while revoked and other traffic offenses.

North was transported to the Holton Community Hospital where he was treated and released. He was also booked into the Jackson County Detention Center on a charge of obstructing legal function.
