TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A pair of Topeka City Council representatives want to keep their seats.

District 1 representative Karen Hiller announced her re-election bid Wednesday in a news conference from her front porch. She says the location illustrated her commitment to serve her neighborhood.

Hiller says she'll continue to focus on reducing crime, attracting jobs and improving streets.

She's challenged by KU student Matt Bevens, who lists reducing crime and opportunities for young people among his priorities.

Also Wednesday, District 3 councilwoman Sylvia Ortiz filed her re-election paperwork with the city clerk's office.

Odd-numbered council district seats, plus district 2 and the mayor are all on the April 2 general election ballot. The filing deadline is noon, January 22nd. If primaries are necessary, they will be held February 26.
