Two Charged With Lawrence Murder

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people arrested Wednesday in connection with a Lawrence homicide have been charged.

28-year-old Jonathan Rush of Wichita and 19-year-old Brittny Marie Adams-Humphrey were charged Friday with second degree murder. Rush is also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and aggravated assault.

Lawrence Police responded to a shooting just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening in the 600 block of Michigan. They say 51-year-old Gary Edens was taken to Lawrence Memorial hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office tells 13 News they were told to be on the lookout for the car, a maroon Pontiac Grand AM, possibly involved in the shooting. Officials spotted the vehicle near 6th & Rice in Topeka just before 7:00 p.m.

The driver, now identified as Rush, led authorities on a short chase before getting stuck at a dead end and stopping in a yard where he and Adams-Humphrey were taken into custody.
