Topekans Shred Paper To Prevent Identity Theft

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The Attorney General's Office celebrated National Consumer Protection Week by helping out at a free document destruction.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt helped out other volunteers to throw away and securely shred personal documents that Topekans dropped off outside the Topeka Public Library Saturday.

Topekans lined up bumper to bumper to pitch their documents. Schmidt told 13 News it is an important step in preventing identify theft.

This event has been going on all week at several different locations and Saturday was the last day.
