TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A basketball coaching legend, Emporia native and Topeka High graduate was honored Thursday morning at a special ceremony.
The former North Carolina head coach, Dean Smith was honored this morning at Topeka High.
A plaque with Smith's name and face now hangs in the halls of the school he graduated from in 1948.
Former Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten, who is a friend and former teammate of Smith's made the dedication.
Smith, who was born in Emporia and graduated from KU, was not able to attend due to health issues.
