Topeka Zoo Asks USDA For Extension

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Zoo is asking the USDA for more time to respond to a report critical of the zoo's operations.

The zoo received the complaint December 19th and had 20 days to respond. The USDA listed more than 30 violations, saying the Topeka Zoo willfully violated the Animal Welfare Act and failed to establish and maintain programs of veterinary care.

Zoo officials say they requested the extension so the city has more time to investigate the facts and circumstances of the incidents the USDA raised.
