TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten took time out of Tuesday night's (2/21) council meeting to recognize two area high schoolers for doing good in the community.
Shawnee Heights Sophomore Zach Haney organized a carnival to benefit families at the Topeka Rescue Mission.
He also led the charge in organizing clothing and book drives for the mission.
Washburn Rural High School Senior Molly Rockfeller was honored for her work with the Rotary Club. She helped raise $65 hundred to send a thousand 'life straws' to kids in Haiti. Life straws help save lives by filtering contaminated water.
