TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka City Council members started talks about possible water rate increases at their Tuesday night (2/21).
Members heard the first reading of the utility ordinance, that would raise water rates in Topeka by about four-percent.
Supporters say the rate adjustment is necessary for the city, to financially keep heads above water, but opponents say the city should cut costs elsewhere.
The council also deferred action for two weeks on a 3-year labor agreement with AFT Kansas, local number 6406.
Council members said they hadn't had enough time to review the extensive contract.
