New Budget Manager To Mind Topeka's Pennies

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The City of Topeka has a new person minding its dollars and cents. On Tuesday, City Manager Jim Colson introduced Nicole (Nickie) Lee as the City's new Budget Manager.

“Nickie has the technical skills and the right attitude to take our City budget to the next level,” Colson said.

In a statement, the City said Lee will manage the budget adoption process and its Capital Improvement Plan. She will also keep track to make sure the city stays on budget throughout the year.

“We have worked diligently to identify ways to contain costs and enhance revenues while remaining focused on meeting the reasonable expectations of our residents," continued Colson. "Our work has included strategically reducing expenditures and refinancing debt to manage the city’s fund balance and regain the confidence of rating agencies."

This task is a long way from over, and with Nickie as a member of the team, we will continue to make significant progress,” he added.

Lee had previously served as a Budget Analyst for the City of Olathe, where she tracked its Capital Improvement Plan and annual adopted budget books. She has also worked for the Cities of Basehor and Independence, Mo., as well as the Kansas Energy Office and the University of Kansas School of Engineering.
