Topeka Zoo Unveils Big Plans For The Summer

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Zoo unveiled two special attractions all set for this summer on Thursday. Zoo officials said their plans center around creating interactive opportunities that are fun for the family and will run from Mothers' Day weekend through September.

The first is its coming "Pachy Play Yard," filled with inflatable activities for the kids. Two of them will be aimed at the smaller tykes, while a third one will be geared toward older kids. It'll be open every day and zoo officials say they plan to change them out every week through September.

The zoo will also roll out its new "Wildlife Stage" with presentations every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. n the half-hour, staff personnel will talk about what its like to work there and answer any zoo related questions.

And, to top it all, there will be special activities all summer, including:

  • Pony rides every weekend in June
  • Ice Days on Saturdays and Sundays in July (where animals get special ice treats
  • A synthetic ice rink that's open daily in July
  • Predator Encounter at Lion's Pride in August. Around 30 people can get a behind the scenes look at how the zoo's lions and their care staff interact every Saturday and Sunday
