Topeka Symphony Orchestra Names New Music Director And Conductor

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__Five finalists competed for the title of music director and conductor of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra.

Kyle Wiley Pickett, Music Director of the North State Symphony in California since 2001 and Juneau Symphony Orchestra in Alaska since 2000.

Pickett is a flutist and also attended Peabody Conservatory where he received his doctorate in conducting. He currently lives in Northern California with his wife and two children.

Before the unveiling of their new conductor, the Topeka Symphony Orchestra presented, "Best of Broadway," Pops concert at White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus.

Today's program was conducted by guest conductor Robert Olson, Director of Orchestras at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

The concert also featured the Topeka Symphony Youth Talent overall winner Chaeyoung Park.

Park is a Sophomore at Bishop Seabury Academy in Lawrence.
