Topeka Street Maintenance Staff Treating City Streets

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka City Staff has staged a level 1 event with crews currently pretreating elevated roadways and known problem locations with liquid deicing product.

10 trucks have also been deployed with material spreaders to begin treating arterial and collector roadway's with bulk deicing material. The material will be spread at 250 pounds per lane mile rate.

Once all arterial and collector roadways are treated, staff will progress to treating local roadways (residential).

Additional units are set to deploy if needed. If conditions get worse, the city will upgrade to a level 2 event and increase trucks and material spreaders to 16 on the streets.

The city will maintain staffing throughout the night to ensure city roads stay safe.
