Man Taken Into Custody After Barricading Himself Inside Apartment

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--A man has been taken into custody after barricading himself inside an apartment early Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to 1239 SW Oakley regarding a disturbance between tenants just after 1:40 a.m.

Officers made contact with an adult male who was uncooperative with police upon arrival.

Police set up a perimeter and activated the TPD Response Team as well as the Crisis Negotiation Team. A search warrant was obtained and served.

The male, identified as Michael David Jenkins, was apprehended without incident shortly before 7 a.m. He was transported to the Law Enforcement Center and interviewed by the Criminal Investigations Division, then taken to Shawnee County Dept. of Corrections for Aggravated Assault.

The other party in the dispute, an adult female, was interviewed by police. She reported that a felony crime had been committed against here but no injuries were reported.
