TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - New bus shelters and accessibility were topics discussed during meetings of Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority board members Monday.

First, the long range planning committee talked over some ways to help the senior population and those with disabilities have more flexibility when riding the transit system. The committee will work over the next year to try to eliminate any barriers that the two groups may encounter.

Their session was followed by a meeting of the Highest Priority committee. Their discussions focused on the so-called "smart corridor."

New shelters will be added along 10th and 21st streets to shelter people from all the elements. The committee is hoping to begin the project in the next couple of months.
