TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A 25 year-old Topeka man was charged with murder for the 2012 killing of 49 year-old Terri Sims, District Attorney Chad Taylor announced on Monday.
Jermaine Thomas Brown, 25, faces one count each Premeditated First Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree, and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree, he said.
Sims was killed in her home, 714 SW Taylor, in September 2012 when multiple shots were fired into the house. Two of her grandchildren and three adult relatives were home at the time as well.
Neighbors say Sms was a caring woman who acted as a mother figure for her community.
Jennifer Haines, neighbor of Sims said, "She had this laugh about her, there wasn't anything like it and she was a loving grandmother. I always laughed because her grandkids would wait outside and yell when their grandmother would come home. Their wasn't anybody like her."
Terri was also known at the Golden Corral restaurant on Wanamaker, where she worked eighteen years as head waitress.
