TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People are invited to take steps in ensuring all babies have a healthy start in life.
The March of Dimes "March for Babies" is coming up in May.
The organization held a kickoff luncheon Friday. Team captains heard strategies for increasing their fundraising efforts. They also learned how it personally benefits families like the Goodens. Shay and Aaron's 19-month-old twins, Zoey and Gavin, were born at 32 weeks.
This year's chairperson, Diane Loiselle of Hill's Pet Nutrition, also has a personal story. One of her children was born prematurely, so she says the March of Dimes mission in research and education has a personal connection for her.
The March for Babies is the March of Dimes leading fundraiser. The Topeka walk has a goal of raising $150,000 this year.
The Goodens will lead the walk May 4th at the Statehouse. Information on forming a team, joining a team or donating a team is available at www.marchforbabies.org.
