TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Some of the community's most giving people and organizations earned honors for their efforts Thursday.
Topeka's Association of Fundraising Professionals presented its annual 'National Philanthropy Day' awards in a luncheon at the Topeka Country Club.
Named outstanding volunteer fundraisers were Tom Palace, Terry Walker and Rich Malloy, for the annual golf tournament they started more than 20 years ago benefiting Midland Care's children's grief program.
Outstanding young professional was Brett Durbin of the Trash Mountain Project.
Envista Credit Union was the outstanding corporate donor.
The Blanche Bryden Foundation won in the foundation category.
Topeka High School student Bailey Evans shared the outstanding young philantrophist award with fellow Trojan Jack Hishmeh.
AFP's award for top philanthropist of the year this year went to Ren and Theresa Newcomer of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Homes.
