Topeka Home Invasion Trial Delayed

Monroe Lockhart

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The trial for a man charged in a brutal Topeka home invasion and assault, has been delayed.

Judge Mark Braun granted a defense motion to continue the case of Monroe Lockhart III, 39.

Lockhart is a former Topeka convenience store partner. He's charged with several crimes, including aggravated counts of assault, battery and burglary, from crimes that occurred last November.

The defense says they'll use the 90 days to prepare an expert, who will test a knife that prosecutors say was heated, and used to burn the victim.
