TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A week-long series of events leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day organized by Living the Dream continued Sunday at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Various congregations gathered together at a special worship service hosted by the Topeka/Lawrence Baptists Ministers’ Union to honor Dr. King’s legacy.

The event featured performances from local singers and a sermon by Reverend Jarvis Collier, Pastor of the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kan.

Community members celebrated King's prevailing message of peace and solidarity.

“One of the things we need to do as a community is be unified,” said Pastor TD Hicks, Topeka/Lawrence Baptist Ministers’ Union president. “So we hope that some of tonight's events would allow us to bring that out tonight: some form of unity,"

Many of Topeka's leaders were in attendance.
