TOKYO (CNN) -- The Tokyo Stock Exchange on Thursday temporarily halted the trading of scores of stocks, including the electronics giant Sony, after problems with its market data systems.
The exchange said in a statement that it had suspended 241 securities as of 9 a.m. (7 p.m. ET Wednesday).
A spokeswoman for the exchange said the affected securities would resume trading at 12:30 p.m. (10:30 p.m. ET Wednesday).
Tokyo is one of the largest stock exchanges on the planet by total market capitalization.
Sony was the focus of investor attention after saying Wednesday that its chief executive, Howard Stringer, would step down.
