Time To Make Some Moves Into A Healthier Lifestyle

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The wellness information network, WIN, wants to help Topekans achieve a healthy lifestyle with exercise, even if it's just walking, with do-able exercises open to the public.

Makin' Moves is a health initiative created to inspire people to stop making excuses and start "making moves."

Part of it is a six week structured walking program that began Saturday at the Fairlawn Plaza Mall from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The walks will continue every Saturday morning for the next five weeks.

More than 85 people participated in a stretch, a walk around the mall, and then a cool down at the end which got everyone's blood pumping.

Chris Omni, a certified personal trainer, founded WIN and offers programs every day of the week. "This is something that's universal and important to everybody," Omni said. "Not everybody can do zumba, not everybody can do kick-boxing, but everybody can walk. Every step counts."

Gabrielle Goshorn and Katie Fox were among the participants.

"It's all about progresion and wellness and bettering yourself," Gabrielle said. "We wanted to come out and better ourselves."

"And be healthy," Katie said. "It's a great way to start off the year."

WIN partners with the Kansas Department of Health. They host other well-being activities such as cooking and exercise classes.
