Cancer, Transplant, Disease, Job Loss; Family Continues Fight

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- 13 News has continued to keep you updated on the Seidel family, of Topeka. The daughter, Jessica, has gone through chemothereapy for cancer and a bone marrow transplant, all before she was a teenager.

After all of that, Jessica's mom Leslie says what they're going through right now is the most difficult time the family has seen. For the first time, both parents - Leslie and Dave - are without jobs. Leslie is a former school teacher who hasn't worked so that she can help take care of Jessica. Dave recently lost his job because he couldn't work after having back surgery earlier this year.

Leslie writes on Jessica's CaringBridge page (www.caringbridge.org/visit/jessica16) that the family's insurance was terminated at the end of November. On top of that, Jessica has been critically ill and her little brother Jordan has had health problems also.

Jessica was given the okay to go home from Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, with a full-time nurse to help care for her.
